Meeting Notes

Date: May 29, 2009
Time: 7-8:30 PM
Place: Greenhill Community Center
# in Attendance: approximately 85

We had a great 2nd meeting of the Rutherford 912 Group! Here is a quick recap -

HOME: Mike Snelgrove, Pastor of Cornerstone Fellowship Church, spent the first 3 minutes of his presentation by making me very uncomfortable that I had invited him. (I was actually running over the most polite, but straight-forward way to apologize to the group, while he was speaking)

He then, went on to say that all of the things he told us in the first 3 minutes of his presentation were untrue. PHEW!!!

Mike spoke about absolute truth and our need to seek truth in what we read and hear. Great presentation - and very TRUE!!

LOCAL: David Reno, a long-time Rutherford County resident, spoke about the Daniel Road Project. He updated the group on the amount of OUR money that has been spent (and will be spent) to fund a Community Pet Center, Equestrian Center, Farmer's Market, and Soccer Fields.

He encouraged the group to seek out fiscally conservative candidates to run for County Commissioner seats, which will be up for reelection in 2010.

STATE: Bruce Tipton is a writer and local tomato farmer, who lived in Mexico for many years (and who wrote the authorized biography of Vincente Fox). Bruce gave a heart-felt presentation about the need for us, as citizens, to stand up for the ones that are unable to do so for themselves - the thousands of babies aborted each year.

He challenged us to vote for candidates that are Pro-Life and to join the fight to end abortion.

We also made available handouts that show the abortion laws, state-by-state. A copy of that information can be found at: http://www.guttmacher.org/statecenter/spibs/spib_OAL.pdf

NATIONAL: Tom Caroll spoke on illegal immigration. He encouraged the group to check out www.numbersusa.com a website dedicated to ending illegal immigration in America.

(The website is a great resource - however, be aware that they also promote an end to LEGAL immigration - an issue that the 912 group and Mr. Caroll disagrees with them on)

The book recommendation for this meeting was The 5000 Year Leap.

Don't forget that Monday night, June 1st, is the next County Commissioners Meeting. Hope to see you there - 6 PM - Annex Building on Main Street.

Meeting Notes

Date: May 1st
Time: 7:00 PM
Place: Greenhill Community Center
# in Attendance: approx 130

With about 130 people in attendance, the first official Rutherford 912 meeting was a great success! The primary objective of these meetings is to share ideas and discuss action steps. Therefore, we had specific BreakOut Times, for people to talk amongst themselves and encourage one another. We also started a 912 Library, so that we can read books related to topics covered. There were presentations (based on the 9 Principles and 12 Values) on the following 4 Areas:

HOME: Wolf Seibler spoke about the "M&Ms" of passing our values on to our children and grandchildren: Mentoring and Modeling.

He even handed out free M&Ms, ensuring that he would be invited to speak at future meetings! :o)

LOCAL: Aaron Hutchinson spoke on Principle #9. He challenged the people of Rutherford County (natives and new residents) to come together, uniting on common issues and become involved in our local government - specifically the monthly County Commissioner Meetings.

The upcoming Commission Meeting is this Monday, May 4th, 6:00 PM, at the Rutherford County Annex on Main Street.

STATE: George and Jamie Padgett gave a heartfelt presentation on the importance of protecting our 2nd Amendment rights. They encouraged us to become familiar with 2nd Amendment websites and upcoming legislation that pertains to gun rights. Debbie Clary, our NC State Senator, also spoke on upcoming bills/laws in the NC General Assembly (including the Bully Bill, and the Water Bill)

NATIONAL: Zoran Naskov gave a brief history of the IRS, and the Income Tax System in America. He then explained the benefit of a consumption (sales) tax, as preferred by the Founding Fathers. He challenged us to become familiar with the Fair Tax Movement and how it would positively affect our lives.

Our next meeting will be held:
Friday, May 29th
7:00 PM
Greenhill Community Center
